Introduction to Short-film making

In our highly visual and virtual world, short videos are an excellent tool for storytelling and communication with a broader audience. This course will empower participants to produce high-quality short films ranging from 0.5 to 3 minutes in length. The course covers the basics of script writing, filming, sound techniques as well as editing essentials. It provides video skills for beginners, and builds upon participants’ existing video making skills. It focuses on developing a critical eye on visual media, guiding participants to develop ideas for their film projects. Through collaborative group work on different production elements, the course  supports trainees across  the different phases of production.

Technical training content includes:

  • Camera, light and exposure.
  • Lighting
  • Composition
  • Video shooting (fixed camera and camera movements)
  • Sound capturing
  • Shooting Interviews, Outdoor, street and indoor activities
  • Script and storyboard
  • Editing with Adobe Premiere

Example of previous projects: Stories through Women’s Eyes

A program implemented with the Palestinian NGO, Women’s Programs Association (WPA) and with funding from UNRWA, to train women from the Women’s Committees in Palestinian refugee camps (Ein el Hilweh, Beddawi, Naher el Bared, Burj Barajneh) on video and visual storytelling. The Women’s Committees are made up of volunteers from the community who advocate for women’s rights and gender equality through awareness raising and campaigns.
